KitGuru reviews Pure Power 11 CM 700W

Worth Considering award for consumer PSU

KitGuru has published a review of the be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM 700W, awarding it "Worth Considering". The main issue the editor has is that some of the components should have been of higher quality when given the MSRP of this power supply. He does like the performance, temperature level, noise level, protection features, and long warranty and concludes that this PSU definitely doesn't disappoint.

“At its current price point the be quiet! Pure Power 11 700W faces stiff competition as for similar amounts of money enthusiast users can get the similar capacity Seasonic Focus Plus Gold or the Bitfenix Whisper M –  both of which feature higher performance and fully modular cable interfaces. With a 20 pounds/dollars lower price tag the L11-CM-700 would be much more appealing since it can easily meet the competition in this category. An added benefit is the whisper quiet operation.”

Comparison of airflow-focused vs. silent case

Noise-normalized thermals with Silent Base 601

GamersNexus is pitching the sound-insulated Silent Base 601 from be quiet! against a case with an open mesh front. Performance tests are conducted on the same noise level for each case.

In the first test, fan speed on the airflow case is reduced to about 58% or 820 RPM to match the noise pressure of around 36 dB(A) from Silent Base 601 at 100% fan speed of 1,000 RPM. Temperatures in the airflow case are about 7°C lower in this scenario. Another test with lower fan speed of 900 RPM in the Silent Base 601 but without the front panel attached results in equal temperatures at similar noise. With normalization to about 33 dB(A), CPU temperature in the airflow case is about 11°C lower.

The GPU temperatures paint a different picture. Silent Base 601 profits from the intake fan being pointed directly towards the graphics card, beating the airflow case by 6°C without front panel and by 3°C with front panel attached at 36 dB(A). Normalized to 33 dB(A), the airflow case is about 1°C cooler.

GamersNexus concludes that you could reach similar noise levels with an airflow-focused case, but it requires more tweaking and might also require buying better fans. The noise-floor of Silent Base 601 is also lower and is specifically targeting higher frequency noise, which is not reflected in the dB(A) measurements.

“It's not saying that these silence-focused cases are in any way worthless cause they are very high quality when they're done right and they do an excellent job at dealing with noise without forcing the user to do a lot of tuning.”

However, he is perfectly happy and comfortable with his current setup in the case.
